Leopold, polnischer Schriftsteller, * Warschau 16. 5. 1920, ✝ Fort Myers (Fla.) 19. 3. 1985; zu Anfang des Zweiten Weltkriegs aktiv gegen die deutsche und sowjetische Besetzung Polens; lebte nach der Flucht (aus dem Arbeitseinsatz in Deutschland) im Untergrund in Norwegen, 1949 Rückkehr nach Polen; seit 1966 in den USA, wo er als Journalist tätig war und auch in englischer Sprache publizierte. Tyrmand zeichnet in den zeitbezogenen Romanen »Zły« (1955; deutsch »Der Böse«) und »Siedem dalekich rejsów« (1959; deutsch »Ein Hotel in Darlowo«) ein satirisch-kritisches Bild der politischen und sozialen Verhältnisse im Nachkriegspolen. Tyrmand verfasste auch Essays (»The ugly beautiful people«, 1985).
